Success Story

Andrea

Pursued a Career in Tech

Andrea Ng’s journey with The King’s Trust Canada (TKTC) began with a series of networking events that opened doors to new opportunities. As a newcomer, Andrea faced the challenge of adapting to the Canadian job market, which differed greatly from her home country. Through TKTC, Andrea was able to immerse herself in a supportive environment where she could connect with peers and professionals, learn about the work culture, and develop essential networking and interviewing skills.

Andrea participated in various TKTC programs, including the Young Women in Tech (YWIT) programs sponsored by KPMG, special events, and numerous online workshops on job-seeking skills. These programs helped her bridge the gap between her background and the requirements of the Canadian job market. She learned how to write resumes and cover letters that fit the Canadian context, and she gained valuable insights into different industries.

One of the standout moments for Andrea was joining the Young Women in Tech program sponsored by KPMG.  Despite not having a technical background, she was able to break into the media industry by connecting with mentors who provided guidance and support. It opened the door to new interests, including UX design and cybersecurity, and allowed me to connect with mentors who offered guidance

Andrea’s journey with TKTC has been nothing short of transformative. She built a strong network, gained confidence in her abilities, and secured a role in programmatic marketing. Looking ahead, Andrea aims to take on leadership roles and help young professionals navigate their career paths.

Andrea encourages young people to participate in TKTC programs to enhance their skill development and networking. She believes that TKTC provides a 360-degree development experience, from job applications to building connections and meeting industry professionals. Andrea’s story is a testament to the effectiveness of TKTC programs in shaping careers and empowering young Canadians – including newcomers.
