Tuoyo

Mastered Networking Skills

Tuoyo Fabiyi’s journey with The King’s Trust Canada (TKTC) began in 2024 when he attended his first The Network event. As a software engineer student, Tuoyo found it challenging to step out of his comfort zone and connect with others. However, TKTC’s welcoming community and mission resonated deeply with him, providing the support he needed to grow both personally and professionally.

Tuoyo participated in several TKTC programs such as The Network and participated in the development of TKTC’s Working in Canada 101 video series. These experiences were so impactful, helping him develop essential networking skills and build confidence in his interactions. Tuoyo learned to approach people and have conversations without feeling uncomfortable – a monumental achievement for a self-proclaimed “introvert” who previously struggled with networking.

TKTC programs offered Tuoyo benefits that traditional schooling couldn’t provide. He found a sense of community and safety in the TKTC environment, which was crucial for his growth. He also learned from the experiences and stories of others, gaining insights into the Canadian job market and developing skills that were directly applicable to his career journey. Throughout this process, he was able to connect with driven and motivated individuals who inspired him to keep pushing forward.

One of the most important takeaways from Tuoyo’s TKTC experience was mastering the art of networking. He realized the importance of building interpersonal skills, such as teamwork and leadership, which are proven to be highly valued by employers. Thanks to these programs, he was able to speak confidently with employers and recruiters.

Tuoyo is excited about his future in tech. Thanks to the confidence he built through TKTC, he recently completed a full-stack program at Obsidi Academy. His aspirations include a full-time career path in AI and machine learning. Tuoyo has one simple word for young people who may be thinking about joining a TKTC program – “Join!”.

Tuoyo’s story showcases that no matter how discouraged or introverted one may be, taking the leap of faith by joining a TKTC program will always be beneficial.

“Brick by brick, day by day. A win is a win, keep going”
